Nasalis

Author: Polaena Era Written: Golden Era Subject Matter: Prophecies and warnings of coming catastrophic events; the final text before Polaena's long silence

Summary / Known Contents

The twenty-fifth and final book in the Book of Nasariane, and the last of the three Golden Era Polaenian texts. Contains many prophecies and hints of coming catastrophic and prophetic events. Written after the nations had been seeded and the lands fully blessed, it was the last text Polaena produced before her long silence. The priest in Covana reads from it in Book II, paraphrasing its core prophecy: that when Polaena perishes, only one shall carry on her fire, and that person was never named.

Significance

The most significant and least-read text in the Book of Nasariane. The priest at Covana notes that many believers never reach it, stopping after Leneles. Its prophecy about Polaena's eventual death and the one who will carry on her fire is the theological underpinning of the entire Gemwielder narrative.

Quotes / Excerpts

The priest in Covana paraphrases from Nasalis: "Polaena knew Her time would come to a close... the words of Polaena insist that when She hath perished, only one shall carry on the fire. She never named them. Never hath She said whether they would choose or be chosen. Only that the world shall burn, and from the ashes, one shall rise, still carrying Her breath."

Notes

  • Referenced by name in Book II; the priest turns to it specifically after passing Sinin, Divisaccis, and Elentis
  • The C.Z. epigraph opening Book II states "Alemaris has done nothing to console me", situating the speaker as someone familiar with the full canon but finding no comfort even in its foundation
  • The Gemwielders' reaction to hearing this passage is silence, followed by the priest bowing prostrate to them
  • The final text written by Polaena before her silence
