Formerly Valaeria Havaera. Wife of Tavu Beidaka and mother of Anue Beidaka and Torra Beidaka. Described as brash and unapologetically cruel, with a tendency toward control and emotional domination. She does not love Anue so much as she loves to preside over her.

Role in Story

The abusive home environment Valaeria created is the foundational wound that shapes Anue's self-reliance, emotional guarding, and eventual departure from Lumen. She appears directly in the opening of Book I when Anue leaves, screaming at her daughter as she runs out and regretting it not out of love but out of losing her subject to control.
