Demons

Overview

The Demons are the primary race of Huozhi, occupying the north-eastern portion of Alatrya. They are distinguished by their horns, slit pupils, and pointed ears. The Demonic peoples were among the first to develop oral history traditions (the Bone-Singers) and one of the last major races to form a unified nation, with Huozhi not proclaimed until 404 c.e. The Baodia Sector of Othaala serves as the only cross-national refuge for Demons outside of Huozhi, established after the Second Elven-Demonic War.

Physical Traits

Median height range 5' 4" to 5' 9". Ears are Human-like except they come to a point at the top. Pupils are slit-shaped. Horn shape and sclera color are the two primary ethnic differentiators, producing four recognized ethnic groups. Horn variants are either backwardly curled with concave segments (Chaipon, Zhumei) or slightly backwardly curved and growing from the upper forehead (Shaigorhei, Yujeiya). Sclera are either white or jet black.

Element Attunement

No single dominant attunement across the race; individual attunement varies. Fire attunement is culturally associated with the Kashteni region, home of Huolong.

Society & Culture

Demonic society was historically decentralized and clan-based throughout the Conception and Wyvernal Eras, with governance emerging slowly through assemblies at Xeingang. By the Magician's Era, Huozhi is a closed and highly controlled state. Under Huolong, the Demonic military has been magically augmented and deployed in a continent-wide campaign of expansion.

• Chaipon — southern Huozhi and Baodia; backwardly curled horns; white sclera; dark brown skin; scarlet or dark red hair; red eyes
• Zhumei — Sonueng Province and Peitao; same horn shape as Chaipon; black sclera; similar skin to Chaipon; maroon or mahogany hair; red-orange or yellow-orange eyes
• Shaigorhei — northern Huozhi near the Northern Flamelands; sparse population; forehead horns; black sclera; brown-toned skin; dark brown or red-brown hair; red-brown or gold eyes
• Yujeiya — Kashteni Province; forehead horns; white sclera; dark skin; bright red or dark magenta eyes; dark red or light brown hair
