Dragonkin

Overview

The Dragonkin are the primary race of Almania, descended from the Five Wyverns defeated during the Wyvernal Wars. Each of the five ethnic groups traces its lineage to one of the five Great Dragons of the Wyvernal Era. They are one of two animalistic races on the continent alongside the Beastfolk, and are considered among the most mentally capable and dominant naval powers in Alatryan history. Their mastery of sailing made them the first to chart the western oceans and the majority of known island territories.

Physical Traits

Common traits across all Dragonkin: scales either in patches or large portions over the skin; vertical slit pupils; ears are slight recesses in the side of the head with the eardrum near the surface rather than a full cartilage formation; median height 5' 8" to 6' 0"; all Dragonkin have black or dark brown hair.

Element Attunement

Each ethnicity is associated with the element of its Wyvern ancestor: Earth (Tyvnians), Fire (Valevyrians), Wind (Kalvevnians), Water (Thurvanians), Electricity (Shvafnians).

Society & Culture

Dragonkin historically held vast, loosely regulated maritime territory and were known for their intellectual sophistication. They are not aggressive in defending territory, partly because most other races are too intimidated to challenge them. Their language, Almanian, uses v-shapes for letters, which makes it particularly confusing to read for foreigners or learners.

• Tyvnians — from Tyv (Earth); most populous; dark green skin; many pointed scales; thin long tail with small barb; yellow-orange or orange eyes
• Valevyrians — from Valevyr (Fire); second most populous; desaturated red skin; thick medium-length tail; sharp triangular scales; yellow-orange or reddish eyes
• Kalvevnians — from Kalvev (Wind); third most populous; one of two ethnicities with horns (short and rounded); dark brown skin; very few scales; thin short tail; light blue or light gray eyes
• Thurvanians — from Thurva (Water); fourth most populous; small fin-like webs on the sides of the head in front of the ear; light blue to light-turquoise skin; thin scales on tail and face; thin long tail with a wavy tailfin; blue or indigo eyes
• Shvafnians — from Shvafni (Electricity); least populous; second ethnicity with horns (long, wavy, sharp-pointed); light brown or reddish skin; sparse rounded scales on tail and chest; short curled tail; yellow-orange or bright yellow eyes
