Elves

Overview

The Elves are the primary race of Othaala, occupying the westernmost nation of Alatrya. They are notable for their pointed ears, tall stature, and strong affinity for both Shadow and Light magic depending on their ethnicity. Elves founded their first settlements in the Bhahare Mountains during the early Conception Era, eventually unifying into the nation of Otanlla and expanding into what is now Othaala. They are one of the most culturally and academically developed peoples on the continent, with a strong tradition of music, law, and scholarship centered in cities like Lumen and Knaema.

Physical Traits

All Elves share distinctive pointed ears, though the shape and length differ between Sun and Moon Elves. Sun Elves have shorter ears with a rounder end corner, a thicker top fold, a thinner bottom fold, a distinctive earlobe, and two internal valleys (the small valley near the corner and the large valley near the ear cavity). Moon Elves have longer ears with sharper, more pointed end corners, two folds of equal thickness, very small earlobes, the same two valleys placed further apart, and an additional feature called the cliff, where the two halves of the ear differ in altitude.

Height ranges differ by ethnicity, with Sun Elves ranging 6' 2" to 6' 6" and Moon Elves ranging 6' 5" to 6' 9".

Element Attunement

• Sun Elves — Light is the most common attunement
• Moon Elves — Shadow is the most common attunement, though generally less dominant than Sun Elf Light attunement

Society & Culture

Elves built the first democratic constitutional monarchy in Alatrya, with the National Senate balancing royal authority since the Conception Era. They have a strong tradition of academic institutions, the arts (particularly music), and legal scholarship. The city of Lumen is the cultural and governmental capital. Elves are relatively insular as a nation; the only non-Elven population permitted permanent residency is the Demonic refugee community in the Baodia Sector and the city of Kaedoa.

• Sun Elves — three sub-groups: Southern Sun Elves, Central Sun Elves, Western and Northern Sun Elves
• Moon Elves — two sub-groups: Northern Moon Elves, Southern Moon Elves
• Dusk Elves — 50% Sun Elf, 50% Moon Elf
