Fairies

Overview

The Fairies are the primary race of Qauta, a nation formed by the union of three historically separate Faeric peoples: the Alktans, the Tasemans, and the Nnassens. They are one of two winged races on the continent alongside the Angels, and are the inventors of sewing, paper-making, advanced looms, glasscraft, and numerous other artisan traditions that were foundational to continental development. Their governance tradition is among the oldest democratic systems in Alatrya.

Physical Traits

Median height range 5' 4" to 5' 7", with Nnassens tending toward the taller end. Hair is brown, blonde, or near-white, with everything between being common. Eyes are jade green, turquoise, or hazel; these traits carry no dominant genes and are essentially random. Wing shape and forehead rune are the two ethnically consistent features, governed by dominant/recessive genetics.

All Fairies are born with a rune on their forehead determined by parentage.

Element Attunement

Wind and Earth tend to be the more common attunements, though their dominance is relatively disputed given a wider variety present throughout the population.

Society & Culture

Fairies developed one of the continent's earliest and most durable democratic traditions, beginning with the Circle Assemblies of the early Conception Era. They are skilled artisans and have historically prioritized environmental conservation, interracial trade, and democratic representation. Qauta's capital is Rrroma on the Taseman Plateau.

Ethnicities

• Alktans — wings roughly ovular, smooth edges, with a wingspine per wing and a connecting grand spine; four wings, torso-height; rune is an eight-pronged star; most common ethnicity
• Tasemans — similar wing shape to Alktans but more compact, bottom wings angled up slightly more, split and less visible wingspines, rougher edges; rune is eight diamonds with a central cross
• Nnassens — top wings identical to Alktans; bottom wings have erratically-shaped top wingspine extensions and more typical bottom extensions; rune is a double pinwheel with an eight-pronged star in the center; tend to be taller
