Ghouls
Overview
The Ghouls are the primary race of A'Amaer, the easternmost nation of Alatrya. They are not born but rather called back from death through a divine process known as Redemption, granted by Polaena to mortals who led unsavory lives and are given a second chance to prove themselves. They are considered deeply strange by most outside peoples, and the vast majority of Alаtryan races have little to no direct experience with them. Herat has the most biracial contact of any nation, though Ghoulish presence even there is meager.
Physical Traits
Ghouls retain the physical form, ethnicity, and appearance of whoever they were in life; there are no specifically Ghoulish anatomical traits or ethnic groupings. The defining characteristic is that they have no solid form but can interact with objects and the world around them at will. They can touch things, but things cannot touch them. It operates on volition. A common linguistic pattern among the Ghoulish population is a heavier emphasis on the letter "s" and similar sounds, which shaped the development of the A'Amaerian language.
Element Attunement
No dominant attunement; varies by the ethnicity of the person's former life.
Society & Culture
A'Amaerian society is built entirely around the philosophy of Redemption: communal living, collective resource ownership, humility, and service to others over self-interest. The Communal Hall in Spola was the founding civic structure, and the community expanded quietly during the Conception Era's Silent Years. Traditions include the Lantern Festival honoring the re-redeemed, the Record of Hands, and the guidance of newly Risen souls by experienced Ghouls.
Ethnicities
None unique to the Ghoulish race; Ghouls retain the ethnicity of their prior life.
