Church of the Low

Type: Temple / Cult Shrine City/Location: Various; one ruined example found in a forest in Othaala Dedicated To: The Low

Overview

A place of worship used by the Pyantyadha Eltyr to venerate The Low. These structures were long believed to be myth, stories told by elders to frighten children into attending the Polaenian Church. The discovery of a ruined example in a Umerr Forest in Othaala by Anue Beidaka confirmed their existence. The altar within that ruin was a pyramid shape, inverted and braced, and bore an inscription in Othaani despite the apparent age of the surrounding building.

History

The ruined church Anue found had no roof left; its stone walls were crumbled, its stained-glass windows cracked and faded, and the floorboards long decomposed. Only the altar had survived intact, as if it had been preserved deliberately. It read:

Halalt vrikam shtomalv. Umerr vrikam thafva zaeran. Da Gakca arrapathelt! Elorvathe meinale prollet ulhawa prramelve!

The living will perish. The dark will consume all. The Low prevails! Bring forth the smell of death!

More active cells exist. By Book II, the Pyantyadha Eltyr had moved their operations from Daegrakce Forest and Umerr Forest to Kkallestiae Forest and Asslvave Woods, before being largely cleared out of those areas by Othaalan defense forces.

Notes

  • These temples are illegal and deliberately hidden. Their existence is considered alarming intelligence.
  • The smell of rot and death is associated with the presence of The Low and these shrines.
